I just bought a new TV for the bedroom, it's not HD, but it's something called ED. From what I gather, it's like 480p or something like that. Anyways, my question is this: is the difference between the resolution provided by standard AV cables and the Component A/V cables really THAT different? And if so, is it worth the $20 (PS2) or $30 (Wii)? And for that matter, if I decide to go the cheap route and go for S-Video, is that noticably better? Thanks, kids!

yes, it is that different and definitely worth the extra money. you'll notice a huge leap in color quality and clarity, sharpness and definition.Originally posted by goldgecko4 View Postis the difference between the resolution provided by standard AV cables and the Component A/V cables really THAT different? s-video is a good choice if you want better quality video and your t.v. doesnt support the component option(or if you just want to save a little money!).Originally posted by goldgecko4 View PostAnd for that matter, if I decide to go the cheap route and go for S-Video, is that noticably better? s-video is still much better than the standard a/v.

Yeah what he said.
SVideo is a pretty big jump though, you can actually read text with it.
Also ED is just a marketing term, and is just a standard TV really. Though it's better than an older TV, all other standard TVs should be the same now (some have better filters than others). Depends on whether it's 480p or 480i as to whether it's better. Really the only difference between i and p is the refresh rate. P means it's progressive (what computer monitors have always been) and draws the whole screen in a refresh, I means interlace (what TV has been up to now) it draws half the screen on each refresh. Also 480 is what has been standard TV definition for a while. Most TVs are around 640x480 to 720x480, though the clarity of a standard TV is not what HDTVs is with a HD hookup.
So SVideo should be good enough. It's way better than composite (yellow cable). The difference between SVideo and component is less noticeable.
