Re: Microsoft is at it again
No. There are a lot of changes under the hood.
Dumb example: Every window now has three dimensions.
There are huge updates under the hood. If True has been keeping up on it, he probably knows that they are adding a lot of little tricks and an "open standard" (but honestly, it's Microsoft) API for the .Net framework. A new communications architecture. My friend went to the launch convention and unfortunately, he's a complete and total Microsoft fanboy (to the point where he praises features of Microsoft Office) but he could not stop talking about Vista's new stuff. Simple stuff like, every application now can include the Windows Search functionality, etc; So I think there's a little bit more than just a graphics update.Last edited by Chad; 01-26-2007, 12:52 PM.

Re: Microsoft is at it again
The thing I dont like is microsoft is trying to redo everything to make it the main attraction on the internet, like trying to replace HTML so if you want to view the website you'll have to have Vista, and also not being compatible with any visual/audio programs except those licensed by microsoft

Re: Microsoft is at it again
Microsoft is doing exactly what it should be doing, at least what it should be doing to please its stockholders. Their product isn't so amazing in the first place, I guess, but neither are a lot of other products that catch on like wildfire and retain market share.
I'm not sure exactly what this is about:
and I'll take your word for it that they're trying to make a new exclusive standard in formatting languages, but I guarantee you that this will never come to be in a widespread manner (and if it DOES come to be, open-source OS's will probably have no problem duplicating its functionality).like trying to replace HTML so if you want to view the website you'll have to have Vista
How Badly Do You Want It? (VX Ace) is now available for download! - no outside software necessary.

Re: Microsoft is at it again
HTML is an open source language, microsoft is replacing all of the HTML script to its own mark-up script(XAML), which is copyrighted by microsoft, which means any company that tries to make a program that reads and writes in Microsofts mark-up language will ultimately be sued. So any company who upgrades to Vista will have to use the new XAML to make it's websites, and to those of us who uses macs or other computers, they wont be able to view the site unless microsoft plans to sell the scripts to them in exchange for royalties
They didnt get into much detail about how HTML and XAML will coincide, or whether older versions of windows will be offered a patch to read the new format, so I may be wrong, but I think this is what Microsoft is trying to do.
We saw what happened when XP came out, it's a totally different OS then any of the Win9x versions, many people thought it would flunk because of all its incompatibility issues, but look where it is today, thats exactly whats going to happen with Vista, they prettied it up to help sell it, adding nice textures and graphics and everything, its pretty on the outside but deceitful on the inside, they're trying to create another monopoly, one where there can be competitors, but they wont be able to use any of microsofts tools
I'm not against Microsoft at all, they have wonderful software, just their business ethics are in the wrong placeLast edited by JPS; 01-26-2007, 03:31 PM.
