The latest PlayStation 3 update has hit for North American users, bringing PS3 firmware to version 1.50. The full change log is, sadly, noticeably absent—please make this available with each update, Sony—but the most noticeable change comes in the form of fixed display of PSone and PS2 games not running in progressive scan mode. That's right. Former eye-poisoning backward compatable games are now fixed. I just popped in Okami and Metal Gear Solid 3, with both displaying on par with their original hardware platforms. In fact, they look pretty fantastic. Amen!

So PS1 and PS2 games don't look like **** anymore. cool.

So that's one less reason for me to avoid it. Once MGS4 drops then I guess I have no reason to hold back. Oh, wait, unless I don't have $599 USD. {:3

I'm checking this out now to confirm with Parasite Eve II and Final Fantasy XII.

PEII looks like crap, but I can't really remember it looking better. But Final Fantasy XII looks great, just as good as when it runs on my PS2.

One of my friends (he's a Sony-crack addict) says they're releasing a $300-$400 PS3, but it won't have the Blue-ray.

Anyone know if this is true or not? My friend hasn't been that reliable in the past... If it is, then maybe PS3 will stop sucking altogether.

Well this is good news, though it will still be a while before I get a PS3, since the first next gen system I'll be getting is the Wii, now I just have to get some money.

But I really doubt they would release a PS3 without a bluray player, because you wouldn't be able to play most PS3 games, as Sony is trying to win the format wars. But I imagine in a year or so when bluray players become cheaper to manufacturer we'll see a price drop of around $100.

YAY! Now I can play games on PS3 that I can already play on PS2! Waaait a minute!

A PS3 without BluRay wouldn't happen. In fact I think they addressed that rumor not too long ago.

And I wouldn't expect a price drop for a couple years. There was nothing stopping them from dropping the price of PS2 but they still waited a year and a half. And they only did that to match the Xbox drop. And they've gone out of their way to mention that PS3 will take longer to drop than PS2 did.

Just wait till the MGS4 360 port. You all know its gonna come out eventually.

And with Armored Core on 360 as well, with a large part of the AC coimmunity siding with the 360, PS3 I need not.

GP: Is MGS4 still planned as an exclusive PS3 game? Do you have any interest in Xbox 360 development?

Kojima: Well, yes, I do have strong interest in creating something for the Xbox 360. In the US and Europe, it is selling, and I think it will sell a lot this year as well. I'm a fan of Gears of War as well, it's very interesting.

Frankly speaking, I want to create something on the PC. It's a multi-platform [format]. I've been regularly studying work on the PC anyways, and I want to provide something as a world-wide platform because of the consequences with timing on the PlayStation platforms, MGS4 is actually for the PS3 only so far.
