    Brand New

A semi-popular alternative/punk band I just discovered a month back. If you like anything within that genre range, or just anything SMART. Give them a listen. Now. The lyrics are razor sharp, and the melodies infectious.

Give either "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades", or "The Queit Things That No One Ever Knows" a listen, and it you like what you hear then look around for more of their stuff.

Brand New instantly gets negative points for their name.

The rest of their albums can suck it really hard.

I was never a big fan. They're not a bad band or anything, I just never, ever have the urge to listen to them.

So in 20 years will they have to change their name to "Really Old"?

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

Oh, Mora, how I love you so. I want to be gay with you.

Yeah but Deja Entendu is definately their best, but Your Favorite Weapon is a greart punk/pop/emo style album and I really don't know about their new album.

It seems like they tried doing what they did with Deja Entendu, but to an extreme that was way way too unaccesable.

Sounds a bit uninspired and emo-y to me.

I'm not sure how you managed to miss Brand New until a few months ago. I mean, I hate them and I've known about them for years!

You have your tastes, and that's fine. But I'm going to have to disagree with you when you classify Brand New as "smart" or "punk."

Indeed. Please explain to me how Brand New is anything except pure emo. I haven't listened to their new album, so maybe they've changed. Their first two, however, were not even remotely punk. Their lyrics are also pretty standard emo-fare.

                            Re: Brand New

Well according to Wikipedia: Punk Rock is
emphasised music that was fast, short in duration, and featured basic instrumentation
                            .

I think their first album would constitute as fitting that bill. With /emo attached, because of the lyrics and shout along choruses and /pop because of, according to Wikipedia:
emotional singing style, lyrics about love or sex, danceable beat, clear melodies, simple harmonies and repetitive structure so that people can catch on and join in
                            .

                            That's what the Wik says.
