PS1 emulator on PSP and 3.03

I haven't been here in almost a year so sorry if I'm repeating something but...

A custom firmware was recently released (about 2 weeks ago) that combines 3.02 with 1.5 compatibility to allow users to have the same flexibility of 1.5 without sacrificing their current games. Here are the features:

-Users with the TA-082 model to downgrade (before, doing this would brick your system)

-Allows users to still play current firmware games as well as homebrew

-Allows users to play ps1 images on their Sony PSP's. Originally you could only do this through Sony's method; buy a ps3... which is incredibly stupid.

The ps1 emulation is nearly flawless. There are a few games that don't work, and currently, multi-disc games that DO NOT allow a save before the switch will not let you continue but these games are very rare (Fear Effect and Metal Gear Solid are the only ones I think of but you can save in MGS right before the disc swap).

Right now, I have Brave Fencer Musashi, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy 7 on my PSP and they run perfectly except FF7 has a few sprite glitches in the cursor that's nearly unnoticeable to the untrained eye.

Hopefully, more features of the PSP can be unlocked by the fans who spent the $200 for the system because Sony sure as heck doesn't care about their actual consumers. Hopefully we can get some N64 emulation running. It's already WORKING, just not at a good speed.

And finally, to go to 3.02 OE-B. (You need to have 3.02 OE-A BEFORE updating to OE-B)

NOTE TO MODS: This post or the links within do not contain roms, pirated materials, or any illegal objects available for download nor links to illegal objects. I assume that everyone who rips ps1 discs owns the original copy and is doing it for their own enjoyment and is not sharing it or offering it for download. This is for backup purposes only, blah blah blah, legal mess.

EDIT: This is actually a post from another forum I frequent but recently firmware 3.03 was hacked.

Ripping a PS1 game is indeed illegal, whether its for backup reasons or not, because it involves breaking Sony's protection features

Also it's an unofficial emulator(or firmware), not sponsored by Sony, which could be considered illegal, don't know

I don't know, this is treading on thin ice...
          4. Pirating software, ROMs, Emulation
The open discussion of media file exchanges is permissable as well as some cases of emulation discussion; namely those programs that require the game CD to operate. But all other talk of illegally obtained, pirated software is not tolerated anywhere at the Pavilion.
As this program can be obtained off the internet free of charge and is not offered on a CD I'd say it breaks the rules, but Valk and Mora has the final say I guess

Sorry, not trying to bash your thread, it is an interesting one, but I'm just trying to help ya out No offense towards you whatsoever

            I'll allow this, for now.

as-is, it doesnt break any rules.

but the second anything is posted or linked to about how to copy games, or use those copied games, the poster will be banned from the pavilion, as there are no warnings for anyone who posts information that can be used to pirate games, even if that is not their intent.

Neat! I'm excited about this. I've had Loco Roco for months and I havn't played it because I didn't want to upgrade and loose my homebrew.

I can dig that. I just really like to play Earthbound on the toilet, or at Starbucks, or on the toilet at Starbucks.

I was interested in the emulation thing for a while, but it has been over a year now, and i have no real interest in going back.

It's the official 3.03 firmware but it's been combined with 1.5 to allow the use of homebrew. While it is true that it's not supported by Sony, the link itself has been up on Sony's own forum so go figure.

Popstation is an official Sony product and it does allow you to run ps1 image files on your PSP officially. The problem is, Sony only allows you do to this through a PS3. Why anyone would buy a ps3 just to play ps1 games is beyond me, so this firmware allows you to use Popstation without needing a ps3.

As far as ripping games goes, it depends on the EULA whether or not you can make a backup although I'm not certain if Sony has some sort of catch all that states otherwise. Copyright laws are pretty finicky and either depend on your state or the EULA provided.

Also, 3.03 comes with a system recovery for anti-bricking purposes. Basically, it bypasses the start up if your PSP is ever bricked allowing you to repair the firmware and your own PSP. It's a good addition if you ask me.

Only NTSC games right now but that'll probably change. I guess the links went down but this is pretty common information and a quick google search of 3.02B will get you loads of info.

I'm about to head out on deployment to Iraq and N. Korea so let's see what interesting things fate has in store for me this time.
