    Online Selling Experiences (Ebay, Amazon)

    Hay Guys -

I keep moving and accumulating crap, and I'm wanting to reduce the amount of crap by shipping it off to other people. I have a crapton of stupid school textbooks that I never looked at and are really heavy to move and annoy me.

I was wondering what your guys' experiences were like in selling your crap.

Ebay seems the most exciting, with a high chance of fraud and paypal being annoying.

Amazon.com Marketplace seems like a possibly good way, has anyone sold anything using this?

Also, Half.com might be something to try out.

What have been your online selling experiences?

I like your use of the word crap.

Anyways, ebay doesn't really run a high-risk of fraud, from what I've seen. My stepdad uses ebay a TON for his business, and has only have to give negative rep to like, 1 person. (FYI, he sells sandblasting equipment.)

But I guess it kinda depends on what you're selling.

The only thing I can say is that if your school books are outdated editions, people may not want to buy them because they are useless for their current classes, but I guess one never knows.

Half and Amazon are interchangable. Items sell for slightly more on average at Amazon, but mostly to compensate for the fact that the Amazon commission rates are slightly higher. If you already have an Ebay account, I would go with Half, because you can carry over your customer ratings from Ebay.

I've sold some stuff on ebay here and there. Never encountered any problems with any buyers.

If you've bought something on ebay before, it kinda gives you an idea on what to do on the opposite end. Just make sure whoever you are selling to has an established line of positive feedback.

Paypal isnt that bad. I really don't use it to receive payments but registering and attaching a credit card or bank account to it is not difficult at all.

You can also accept concealed cash and money orders as forms of payment, though that turns off some buyers who prefer the convienence of instantly paying through paypal.

I've bought and sold stuff on eBay for years, with few problems. Be up front about your expectations with buyers. Always keep records (receipts) for shipping just in case. Getting paypal payments isn't too bad, except for the fees and the possible (although rare) chargebacks, which can be prevented by proof of shipping.
