Stupid parents and one dead boy due to Gameboy

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/6163774.html

"We're all devastated," Curry said. "My son was only unplugging his Game Boy--he does it all the time at home. There should be some kind of warning about the different electrical currents you get abroad because this would not have happened in England."
God, do they have to be so stupid? Duh, they teach this stuff in school!!!!!!

I think there was other factors...

Even if the current was different then that of englands, the current had to have been extremely strong to jump from the outlet to the boys hand, which is highly unlikely, I think he accidently put his fingers in front while unplugging it(probably while wet, thinking nothing would happen), and hit both prongs before he had it fully out, causing the elec.

But anyways, the boys dead, the parents were stupid for leaving a 7-year old by himself....so Phuket, its the parents fault, throw them in jail

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

Damn those Violent Videogames! It's the developers fault! Where was the ESRB when this happened? WE MUST CHANGE THE SYSTEM TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!
      ...and that's why.

        Dumb.

The child's body was found slumped on the floor of his parent's hotel room by his mother, Kathleen Curry. She said that Connor understood the dangers of mixing electricity and water, and insisted he would not have plugged the handheld in while still wet. The family reportedly bought the charger in Thailand.

It's a horrible tragedy any way you look at it. Parents need to stop treating video games as if they're no different than a stuffed animal just because it's bought for the kid. If you wouldn't let your child operate a major appliance alone then they shouldn't be plugging/unplugging a game system unsupervised.

I think we have a contender for a Darwin Award. It might sound callous, but you're reading the post of someone who used to break lightbulbs and stick the tungsten filaments in electrical sockets for fun. Electricity will show you no mercy if it decides it wants to kill you.

...How did he get shocked exactly? I don't really see how it's possible... Other than what JPS said.

Wow. That's really sad. It's hard to believe a Game Boy could kill someone. A Game Boy

Well, technically the socket killed him, not the GameBoy.

In fact, the gameboy part is really irrelavant to the whole issue, unless you argue that the gameboy wire was the reason he was shocked, which I don't think really made a difference.

Yea, but like I said the only way that could have happened is if he completed the current, by touching both prongs at the same time....touching each one separately wont do anything to you

What I dont get is they said the charger was purchased in Thailand, so it should have worked, since they were in Thailand, plus if the power current was too strong wouldnt it have shorted out the GB?

                      DID YOU KNOW?
Heres an interesting article explaining Thailands' electricity, apparently this kinda thing happens all the time
As late as 2004 (as I am editing this much older article), Thailand Guru received a report from a man who had witnessed a 10 year old girl with a tourist family get electrocuted to death at a highly reputable resort when she was playing in a wet place and came in contact with the electrical lighting.

This is not the only death I've encountered, in addition to vast numbers of people getting shocked, equipment damaged, and electric outages at places. The point here is that bad electrical wiring is ubiquitous in Thailand, and often dangerous, and I don't think these problems will be going away quickly. However, with a few basic precautions and continuing education, things will continue to improve.
