    Slim vs. Fat PS2 sounds

Not long ago, I got enough money to get a slim PS2 in order to be able to play the blue-backed disks (like RPG Maker 2). I still have my fat PS2. It plays DVDs fine. I've noticed though that the slim PS2 seems to make more noise in general than the fat one. It isn't a used slim PS2. I bought it new.

Is this just how the slim PS2 is - a little louder?
It's not grinding or giving DREs or anything, the motor just seems so much louder than the fat one.

I've noticed that with my slim PS2 as well. There's always this loud buzzing noise whenever a game loads.

It may be a normal occurrence--because so far my PS2's working like a dream. I wouldn't worry about it too much for the time being as long as your PS2 works great.

Oh, that's good to know. Yeah, it works great, just loud. Okay, well, that makes two of us.

I never had a big PS2 so I can't really compare but my slim PS2 sounds like a lawn mower running certain games, especially RM2. Sometimes it's loud with regular PS2 discs too. It might just be that the motor doesn't have as much stuff around it to dampen the sound.

Well mines normally pretty quiet, until RPGM2 is in there then you can probably hear it in another room. Not really sure why as it would seem DVDs should spin faster than CDs but maybe not.

I think it does this with Worms Forts as well so maybe it's just the blue discs. I know normal PS2 DVD games usually don't make it all that loud, besides normal disc operation sounds.

At first, when I noticed the noise, I was a little scared. I realized my PS2 worked just fine despite the buzzing, so now I see it as more of a nuisance than a concern.

I only hear the noise when it loads the network config software. I thought it was ACTUALLY trying to blast off and personally mingle with other PS2s. I pointed towards the blue Ethernet cord and told the little black whirlbox that I had the transfer medium well in hand and that it didn't have to go to the trouble of transporting itself.

I think the buzzing loudly in the slim PS2 comes from the disc spinning rapidly in such a confined space with a cover that tends to rattle, the fat PS2 has a sliding drawer for the disc and thus is held in place by 2 sliders, reducing rattle, also the disc in the fat PS2 has plenty of things around it to absorb noise, whereas the slim PS2 has plastic all around the disc, combined with it being in such a confined enclosure, causing the noise to only be able to escape from the lid and the vents(which I believe a majority is in the front, if not all)

Also the disc in the slim PS2 is much closer to the outside then that of the fat PS2, which also causes a lot of noise to be heard
