Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Old movie (2004)... but just saw it the other day.

    Awesome. Go rent it, now.

It stars Jim Carrey and it's about a couple that's on the rocks. His girlfriend gets her memory of him erased, and it kills him inside. In order to cope, he erases his memory of her. But during the process, he becomes self-aware that he's "asleep" and he can't wake up. Through his memories he discovers he still loves her and doesn't want to lose their past. Most of the movie is him inside his own head, trying to save his memories from being deleted. Very trippy.

Great ending, and just an all in all good movie. To me, anyway. Again, go rent it.
    Keep the change.

yeah, Michel Gondry has such a way of taking a completely out there concept and turning it into an engaging piece of gold. I love Eternal Sunshine. the ending is realistic and it's one of those endings where you know nothing will turn out alright down the road, but you still hope everything will. I've dated girls like Clementine and I hated every second of it.

Eternal Sunshine is still on my top 10 favorite movies and I doubt it'll ever leave that coveted list.

I liked Adaptation so much that when Eternal came out I had too high hopes for it. Still a good flick though, but I can't wait for Kaufman's next script.

I don't like it because I think it's uneccesarily depressing.

Also, the subplot with Kirsten Dunst was a dumpster in everyway and created a massive plothole.

EDIT: I'll explain my post a bit - since I know I haven't been very good at doing that in the past.

Basically the whole theme of doomed happiness is something I personally don't need explored. The beautiful sadness of the world weighs on my shoulders in waking conciousness and dreams alike. I didn't like having to watch a movie that basically beat me in the face on a subject that tears my being at all times.

I can see why people like it. But I don't.
