I have this idea I've been kicking around for a long time, and I finally want to present it to you guys.

I've always liked making up Superheroes and villains, but I've never had the ambition to write or draw a story or comic. I would really like to do a superhero type story though. So I thought it might be fun to make a community story. It would work a little differently than the CWS. Instead of one story that everyone writes, we would all write our own short stories that would take place in the same city. So there would be all these different takes on the same setting. Like the CWS you could use other people's characters or ideas in your own stories, and like the CWS you would have to be careful not to mess up the continuity of events or have characters act differently than they normally would.

Participation wouldn't be limited to just stories too. If you had an idea for a hero or villain or part of the city or anything you could add it to the community pool. This would help to flesh out the background and make the whole community more complete.

The goal would be to create a unique world filled with all our characters and story, and make a unique community experience.

What I would like to know is if you guys would be interested in participating in this, or if it just a pipe dream of mine. Please post here with your support or comments. Thanks.

I am interested in participating.
However, I have to ask if this would be limited to just the staple 60's style heros or are anti-heros or even non-super heros okay?

This idea intrigues me quite a bit, but I don't know how much I'd contribute since I have a short attention span, and get easily sidetra- hey, a butterfly!

Gloomy, this would get good for you because you're good at character design. So you wouldn't have to write a story. You could just design a hero and let anyone who wanted to put them in their own stories.

Marcman, it wouldn't be limited at all. You could make a traditional hero, a new wave hero, a anti-hero, or a story about some guy who lives in the city.

Stewie, you don't need to get deep. Stay as shallow as you want. It's all up to you. That's part of the appeal of it to me. Some people might write something full of depth and subtext and others would write an action packed adventure. And they would exist side by side.

Okay, early interest seems good. So here's a good place to start? What would the name of the city be? _________ City. Post your ideas. Once we have a name, I'll post the intro and we can begin in proper.

If you get the ball rolling, the idea intrigues me enough I'd contemplate giving it a go.

I've got a good intro allready written, which sets up the setting and intial conflict. And I've got ideas for a few heroes and villians of my own. Hopefully it will be enough to inspire everyone else. I'd apriciate your partcipation, Mora. You're a good writter, but I was afraid you'd say "We already have one CWS, so no dice!"

So its like some zany spinoff idea of those brick wars things way back when?

Like how 3 or 4 people all made up the one story with their own comics, but this time have like 15 people doing it?

If so Im interested.

is it gonna have a point on "cool"?

or

"crazy"?

cool-> awsome action with cool design...(little like justice league?)
crazy-> just crazy; with comedie? or low?

We could have both. Y'know, cool stories and crazy stories coexisting. It works.

Also, Criterion City. Or Municiberg.

I'll write a story. I can design a character, as well. This sounds like fun! And I need to write and draw more, anyways.

I'm interested, but only marginally for one reason. I would definitely read it, but I have a lot on my plate right now because I'm editing the CWS3, and that takes up a good three or four hours of my day, consisting of time spent rereading the addition I'm posting for the day, writing the one or more paragraphs blurb before the story, compiling the addition in the 'updated edited book version' of the story where the formatting is different, and then continuing to edit further additions afterwards.

All that being said, I'm insanely interested in this idea, but only as an idea, as I once had a similar idea for a future CWS where it was an ongoing story like we're doing now, but presented in actual episode format, where each addition to the story has a discernible exposition, rising action, and climax, like episodic shows like Cowboy Bebop. Self-contained short stories that eventually rise and combine to make a complete story. The difference between your idea and mine I think is that it sounds like your stories could take place wherever and whenever in the confines of the overall story, so long as it remains coherent to the rest of the information presented.

So yeah, this idea rules. You get positive rep.

So... what is this? A giant forum roleplay?

Been there, done that, if that's the case.

IRC

what made it sound like a role play. It's a community story.

Denmo
04-07-2005, 12:26 PM
Role plays where I came from weren't much different. We made a story together, just with characters we made up. No dice or anything like that.

IRC
04-07-2005, 12:47 PM
Well if you look at it that way I guess you could consider this role playing, but then you would have consider all works of writing role playing. The difference is that I don't think any is going to actually play the role of the characters in the story so by that definition it's not role playing.

Kefka Jr.

Actually, I see what Den's talking about. I did something very similar a long time ago on another board, where we could all control our own characters in a FFVII universe within the context of other character's actions.

The difference here is that this forum as a whole is a lot more talented than those guys ever were.

Denmo

I hear that. I'm just not interested in a Add-on story thing, unless I'm able to take control of over half of the plot. :)

CRITERION CITY

Roleplaying would assume that we control one character from the 1st person perspective. Some people "roleplay" in the 3rd person ("I ask the warden about the going ons in the town") but thats only how the lame-o's do it.
So your lame if you do it like that. Lamey.

As far as a city name goes, I dont really see the need for one. You can come up with one if you want, but I would just refer to it as "the city" for the most part.

No, I just needed the catharsis after reading that name.
