    A delicate(?) question

Ummm... there's this program called Game Maker available for download on the PC... I was wondering if this was an okay program to talk about...? I don't want to stumble into a ban warning talking about an illegal program here.

        Hooray! ^_^

Is there anyone I can ask about for tutorials and stuff like that? I want to make a beat-em-up game from scratch, but I'll need help... I don't know the first thing to do here...

One of the best places to look for tutorials on gamemaker is on their forum:
            Here
I have been using gamemaker(gm) for over 5 years now...but i mostly just do art for games. Thus why ive been dedicated to Wanderlust Online(big online game made in gamemaker...can be found on their forums if you interested.) But yes, gamemaker is a great program that can virtualy create anything you have in mind...and even 3d stuff now...just not that great yet(the 3d that is). Hoped i helped a little.

I can't seem to find any help on Streets of Rage-style games. Is there a way someone can hook me up with advice? Or an editable game I can learn examples from?

I want to make a Streets of Rage-style game, complete with elements like grabbing an enemy and vaulting over them to do grab attacks from behind... and cutscenes, complete with text windows with faces.

I don't know if this will help any, but...

I'm working on a game right now that's a side-scrolling, RPG, beat-em up type game. It has the elements of a side-scrolling fighter because of the dimensions and system, but doesn't have a very complex fightning system.

The system I used is kind of different. To progress in the game, you go to different levels or missions. For each mission, you select three distinctly different warriors each one with one type of attack. Then, when you're in the field, you press Control to switch characters to kind of mix the three fighters into one.

It's tough to explain but it's got some basic elements if you've just started.

A beat-em up is kind of a lofty goal for a beginer. You should familiarize yourself with all the functions by making something simple, first.
Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

The one I made is pretty basic.
I guess a beginner might be able to make one like mine, but then again, I also doubt it.

But you could learn from looking how other games work. That's how I learned at least.
