    worried... (diabetes)

So, when I got the full STD test, the doctor also took my blood sugar since I hadn't eaten in 12 hours. He said it was around 100, which was too high. It should be 70-90. I'm going to get what the exact number was soon. So, after hearing this, I made a conscious effort to eat pretty well and work out a lot. excercise creates insulin for the body. I've been doing 60 minutes of cardio a day and weightlifting as well, everyday for a week.

I finall got my own blood sugar monitor. Not too long after working out (lifting back and biceps), my blood sugar was 103. Still too high. I slept on it this morning and it was 104 this morning. If it gets to 125, I'm diabetic.

I'm seeing the doctor ASAP, but I have to admit I'm really worried. I don't want to be diabetic.

Diabetes won't care if you don't want to be diabetic.

Good luck Kire. Hope it's only temporary. Could it possibly be inherited..?

I don't think you should be too concerned. Just keep up the sugar-beating work and maintain a positive outlook. You should be fine, God willing.

          Hope everything goes ok.

On a lighter note, I hate when people pronounce it "diabetus"

Diabetes runs strong in my family.... so when I get it I'll be going into a diabetic induced coma.

I eat mostly junkfood and never exercise. I wonder if I have diabetes. Eh, one of these years I'll go see a doctor and find out all the stuff that's wrong with me.

Avoid high fructose corn syrup. It's not really cane sugar that is bad for you, but sugar replacements/substitutes that are.

Yeah, I had a Nutrigrain bar today as a healthy snack (good to eat a bit every 3 hours to keep metabolism going). Guess what? It's got high fructose corn syrup!

I'll just keep an eye on it once a week...my blood sugar that is.

                          Re: worried... (diabetes)

Unless you can either grow your own food, have ready access to a family farm to purchase goods from, or can shell out huge ass amounts of money for a diet lacking in 'convenience foods' and with lots of fresh produce, there's not much avoiding it in this country.

It's in almost everything. Ketchup, cereal, soda, fruit juices, frozen foods, even canned vegetables. You have companies like Archer Daniels Midland and Monsanto to thank for decreasing choices in your diet. Yes, you have a choice in what you can eat, but it's not much of a choice if it has gotten so difficult and/or expensive to buy as to be not feasible to regularly have it as part of your diet.

Even worse, actual sugar is tariffed to encourage consumption of HFCS. This makes healthier choices of food even more expensive.

You see, that's the corporate vision of the free market. You, the consumer, doesn't make the choice. The shareholders do. If they want to steer you to their product, they will make the competition either expensive and/or difficult to obtain. Why, if you have the economic wherewithal and means, then that is what the market will bare! Otherwise, you have no reason to complain, grow your own! No land? Go buy some! Don't have the cash because land has gotten so expensive since we purchased it all? Sorry, that's not our problem!

To further understand this concept, throw "price discrimination" into a search engine.

The numbers of people suffering diabetes is obviously not due to genetics and not entirely stemming from the dietary choices of individuals.

Hrafn says that you should not be too worried about the diabetes; Hrafn's grandfather had it for more than thirty years, and ended up dying at the ripe old age of 82. Of course, he also had incredible willpower, so he never ate the things diabetics are supposed to avoid. That might also be his secret.
