    Resident Evil

Can I have your thoughts on this series? Personally I thought Resident Evil 4 was amazing, but it made the others seem underrated.

I like 1, 2, and 4 the most. 3 and code veronica just bore me for some reason.

      Re: Resident Evil

Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 are masterpieces. My first time playing through those games - especially 4 - are some of the finest times I've had.

I remember really liking Resident Evil 3 but I haven't replayed it in a long time. The branching paths with the Nemesis was really cool and the last fight was memorable. Paracelsus' sword? WTF?!

CODE: Veronica was epic and awesome for its time but I can't pick it up now. It's too long and too epic, especially for that now-arcane playstyle. It's basically a side story anyway.

Resident Evil Zero was garbage, IMHO. Soooo boring, so slow, so dull. Pointless. Nice graphics though.

Never touched the spin-off games, i.e., Survivor and Outbreak. They don't look too fun at all but they seem to be canonical. Whatever that means to Capcom.

edit: Oh, duh. Resident Evil 1. The Gamecube remake was magnificent but for some reason I keep forgetting it. I guess all those remakes just kinda dilute it. The DS version was pretty cool though the knife minigames were random, or downright detrimental. It's a shame we're not gonna see a RE2 DS. =(

underrated? nah. resident evil & resident evil 2 were phenomenons during their time. i've played through all of the resident evil games more than i care to admit.

edit: well, the original and the remake, zero, 2, 3, code veronica and 4 to be exact.

A friend and I were recently talking about it. What I love about Resident Evil is that every single boss battle requires a major investment of timing and resourcefulness.

          And other things, too.

Resident Evil was great because it had you running around a scary mansion. But when you got to the laboratory, it seemed less scary since they shoved all this science on you as to why things happened. as much as I can enjoy sci fi horror, i'd rather have things go wrong without any explaination.

Resident Evil 2 was great because of the multiple scenarios, and unlockable characters. Also with new characters the overall story could branch out more. I still think Hunk needs his own game.

Resident Evil 3. What the hell?

Resident Evil 4 was a great cinematic experience. Although the camera was directly behind you, it still played like a RE game, but adding different actions in the envrionments to feel like you were doing more than you could. Although they are supposed to be enemies, I actually liked the relationship between Leon and Ada.

Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2 I loved. The only flaw to me was communicating with other people online. The only way to get anywhere was to know the entire level by heart before playing online. Preset phrases such as "Help" "go", "no", thanks", "sorry" ect wouldn't do.

Code veronica. Was ok. I hated steve. the survival mode you unlock was my favorite. It was easy as claire, chris, ect because they had guns, but my favorite was playing as Wesker. You had only a knife. I beat that in a half hour, but it was worth the fun

I don't think it's worth playing anything but RE4. Personally.

I don't think I ever played RE3 aside from the demo that came with Dino Crisis. I bought Code Veronic but was only a little way into it when it got borrowstolen. The original was great of course but 2 surpassed it in every way. 4 I rented but I suck at the controls so I didn't get far.

You're missing out on some good Leon-isms.

I just hated it. Didn't find the story any fun, that cuban guy was annoying, and it felt more like a spin off rather than an actual sequel. Only thing I enjoyed was the mercenary mode.

I love the Resident Evil series. Especially the first one for the original PSOne.

It wasn't so much the scare factor--just the REALLY hammy voice acting. I haven't gotten over the "Master of Unlocking" bit.

Or let's not forget the kooky Barry Burton-ism, eh?

                        Re: Resident Evil

Played Resident Evil 1 when it first came out. It blew my mind as far as graphics and scare-factor at the time. Even then I understood that the control scheme was funky and the voice-acting was so treacherous that it became laughable. It was still a great experience for its time, but like Magus says, Resident Evil 4's new playstyle makes it very difficult to play because of its limitations.

Resident Evil 2, besides 4, is the one I had the most fun with. It also seemed to have the most to do because of the two differing scenarios and the replay value was great in those scenarios. The "jumping through windows" shocker moments immediately began to wear thin for me, though. I have the Claire disk for PSX and for DC, and I don't really know how I managed that, since I never bought it for either system.

Resident Evil 3 was kind of neat but failed ultimately as a sequel to 2. Nemesis was this awesome thing that constantly chased you, which was great, but in the end he seemed too easy as a boss. The other playable character was also very underwhelming.

Resident Evil 4 reinvigorated the series. As everyone knows. The voice-acting was actually decent, the control scheme revamped and tweaked to perfection, the monsters all had their unique things they did, the bosses were even more-so unique. The frantic pell mell shooting I undertook during the missions where Ashley was pulling levers and rotating gears and stuff on her own really got my heart racing because I couldn't be there next to her to defend, I had to rely on myself (and Leon's shaky hand) to take those bastards out from long range. The final boss was too easy, as they always seem to be these days. And the subsequent escape was tacked on and was only there to give it that "action movie" ending.

CODE: Veronica and Zero I never played all the way through, but I think it was Zero that puts you on the train in the beginning of the game. I hated that boss on the train. Veronica was fun until I got to the mansion and then it felt like a complete rehash of 1.

Didn't play any of the others.

one of my favorites was when u played as chris. Wesker shows off the Tyrant for the first time and is all proud of it, then Chris just busts out laughing at it.

                          "Hehehehe."

                          "Chris?"

"I guess we got to the ... ROOT .. of the problem." Really. He was trying to be funny when he really wasn't. Plus, the opening movie was soooo freaking hilarious. I remember the guys running from the dogs, and once the helicopter starts flying off and Chris was screaming "NOOO! DON'T GO!" -- they're just standing around! I mean, WEREN'T THEY SUPPOSED TO BE RUNNING? Those dogs would have torn them to shreds about now!

I played RE1 at friends house on the saturn first. you got to see kenneth's head on the floor. I was surprised it was missing in the PS1 version.
