    Memory blocks

Well, I have had RPGM for a while (the first one, on PS1) and I never finished a game on it, but I have played with it a little bit.

I decided to pick it up and finish a game on it, I'm outlining my story currently, and dinkering with the editing stuff when I think of things that I wanna do.

And also I didnt get a instruction manual when I got the game, since it was used when I got it.

So, I have a simple question. When I save my game info, it saves onto a block on the memory card, since I havent really created enough to fill up that one block yet I was wondering what happens when you fill up that block, does it just start using the next block or do you have to do complicated stuff to juggle different blocks of info?

It's dumb I know, but I cant get it off my mind.

Matbe I should just go fill up a block...

    Um..If you don't mean cards..then..

Yes, it should just take up more blocks, but there is no juggling to be done.

If it takes up more than one card though..well..you'd have to ask somebody else, I don't think I can help you with that

      Re: Memory blocks

Initially, you need 1 block for system data and 1 block for scenario data. As your system/scenario data gets larger, the save will automatically take up more blocks. It's really simple.

I've found that when I've completely exhausted RPG Maker's system/scenario data, the scenario data took up about 14 blocks, and the system data took up about 7.

Also, custom characters take up 1 block each, and custom monsters/title screens take up at least that much.

Edit: I guess I'm too slow. Also, as far as what Rain said, I wouldn't even worry about completely exhausting your available memory right now. Just be aware that there's ways around it if it ever happens.

You can buy really cheap ones at Best Buy.

I told my mom to buy EITHER(specifically) a 3-pack of SONY memory cards or 3 singular SONY memory cards when she went.

So of course, she bought some 32-in-one memory card Mad Catz thing.

I'm dreading that it won't work..but I would just tell you to stay away from that sort of thing.

yeah, I use to have one of those special memory cards, with 32x blocks, I lost all those files, but fortunately I saved my Final Fantasy games on normal cards

              nicely done.

But yes, Best Buy sells 3-packs for $5.00 or singles for $2.00.

              and 32x for $5.00

Dang my mom and her utter desire to save...wait, it saves no money. ><

They might be priced differently where you live, and I haven't been in a while..but they should still be cheap.

I remember buying about 3 or 4 about a year ago for that price. Then losing all of them when they just seemingly dissapeared

                    well, I'll find out tomorrow.

I wish I could use PS2 cards on my PS1 games, but noooo, Sony isnt smart enough to do that.

                        Re: Memory blocks

PS1 and PS2 cards are very different formats. PS1 games save in blocks, PS2 games save in Kb. Sure you can move the PS1 files to and from PS2 cards, but that's because the PS2 itself does that. Obviously, the games can't do that, because the game doesn't know if it's running on the PS2.

BTW, I don't know how it works exactly, but the amount of blocks taken up on the memory card varies depending on similarities of different maps. Like if a certain event could be found on two different maps, it would take slightly less memory on the card (but not RPGM itself) than if those two events were different. Of course, don't try being lazy and have every town have people say the same things like "*sigh* Times are tough." It's mostly useful when it comes to non-random battles.

                          Re: Memory blocks

I noticed something like that, I was filling up a dungeon with the same tile and after a while the memory amount stops going down, I guess it uses some methods to conserve memory.

I'm planning to make a short and straight forward game, so I'm thinking there is a good chance that it wont take up the whole memory card.

Also considering the only memory card I have with room on it only has a couple blocks, I'll definately have to get new cards.

Yes, with RPG Maker, having at least two or three cards dedicated to RPGM is a necessity.
