Just wondering has anyone ever been able to do this? I've read other posts and tried many different things that never worked...

This is of course anouther option. You could program an override for the circle button where it performs any constant script (i.e. show text box, display VFX, jump, pull up a CMS, etc.) but to complete the process the constant script you run will have to require a second button to cancel its action. This would not completely prevent running with circle, but you could make pressing it annoying to the player as a deterrent.Do you serve with a purpose or purposely serve?
